Truffle

Winter in the truffle grove

· 2 min read

Updated on

At Les Hermessaines, truffle grove visit enquiries are open now, by quotation. The programme depends on the season; Tuber melanosporum is harvested in winter, generally from December to March. Research presented by INRAE links truffle production to climate, particularly water availability. The calendar alone cannot predict the outcome of a visit.

Tree, soil and fungus

Truffles live in association with tree roots, as explained by INRAE. During the visit, ask which trees grow there and how the soil is managed. Someone who knows the plot can connect that biological relationship to the work actually carried out there.

Prepare a winter outing

Visits are possible every day for up to 40 people in total, including adults and children, only with a quotation and a confirmed appointment. The visit is cancelled if it rains. In your truffle grove visit enquiry, mention possible dates and access needs. Confirm the route and programme before coming and wear footwear suitable for paths. The agreed programme may include a truffle-hunting demonstration in season; finding truffles or taking any home is not guaranteed.
