Wine for a wedding, friends or a family meal: preparing your choice

· 2 min read

Updated on

For a wedding, first check whether the caterer charges corkage for wine you supply. Add this to wine and delivery costs before comparing offers. Then send the menu to the seller: grilled meat and the same cut with a sauce call for a different discussion.

Preparing a wedding enquiry

Have the quotation specify quantities, bottle size, delivery place and date. Check payment terms, possible changes and storage on site. Guest numbers alone do not determine the wine quantity: plan the other drinks and meal schedule with the caterer.

Choosing wine for friends or in-laws

Ask whether guests prefer a light red, a more structured wine or a white. When giving a bottle, include its origin, grape varieties and serving temperature. Also provide a choice of alcohol-free drinks.

Plan how to serve it

The 2024 red wine sheet recommends serving at 16–18°C and about thirty minutes in a decanter. Follow the chosen wine’s guidance; opening a bottle is not the same as decanting. Avoid sunlight and hot vehicles. Include alcohol-free drinks and confirm availability before ordering.
